On October 9, 2022, PONY INC. voted to change the age guidelines starting with the 2023 Spring/Summer season. Washington Youth Baseball (WYB) follows PONY INC. rules, so these new age guidelines will apply to WYB. The specific rule change will move the birthday cutoff for every league from August 31st to April 30th.

All players will follow the NEW age guidelines starting with the 2024 season.

For the 2023 season, all players will fall into one of the following three categories:

1. Players born in the months of January, February, March, April, September, October, November, & December of any year are NOT affected by the new rule.

2. Players born in May, June, July, & August of 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, & 2018 will follow the NEW age guideline. Their league is not affected.

3. Players born in May, June, July, & August of 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, & 2016 will have the choice to follow the NEW or OLD age guideline. Their league will be affected by their choice.

For the 2023 season, WYB is offering players from the third category above, who could play in two different leagues, the choice of staying in their respective league or moving up to the next older league. The choice will be available during online registration for the 2023 season only. Players born in the following months and years will see two options when registering:

2008 - Players born in May, June, July, & August can register in Pony or Colt

2010 - Players born in May, June, July, & August can register in Bronco or Pony

2012 - Players born in May, June, July, & August can register in Mustang or Bronco

2014 - Players born in May, June, July, & August can register in Pinto or Mustang

2016 - Players born in May, June, July, & August can register in Shetland or Pinto

All other players born outside of these dates will remain in their respective league and follow the new age guidelines for the 2023 season and beyond.
